The Bi Sexual character Captain Jack Harkness (played by John Barrowman) from the new Dr Who series is to get his own Sci-Fi show "Torchwood" aimed at a more adult audience. The drama will be written by the current writer of Dr Who Russell T Davies who is most well known for writing the series "Queer As Folk” among other successful TV series.

Official BBC Press Release (http://www.bbc.co.uk/print/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2005/10_october/17/torch.shtml)

News Report Gay.com (UK) (http://uk.gay.com/headlines/9152)

Russell T Davies wrote Cpt Jack's character very good in Dr who and I hope having such a good Bi character on TV will help increase understanding of us Bi folks.

John Barrowman was born in Scotland but raised in the US and has worked on TV and the stage, and is also a good singer.

I had the opportunity to meet John once and he is a really nice guy with looks to die for ;) :tong: If you don’t believe me take a look at his website

In case your wondering I have been a Dr Who fan all my life so I guess that makes me a geek   Hope this was of some interest.

Not the first bisexual character to be in a sci-fi series. What about Commander Susan Ivanova from Babylon 5?

It could also be said the Dax (DS9) was bisexual.

Hi!

Click on this link if you want to hear and see John Barrowman with his virile and sexy voice, speaking about his role in Dr. Who as Captain Jack, as well as some images from the series:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/check/doctorwho/ram/barrowman?size=16x9&bgc=CC0000&nbram=1&bbram=1

According to this report he is gay... mmmmm:

http://www.queerday.com/2005/feb/28/dr_who_gets_gay_companion_in_john_barrowman.html

Here you can use some of his pics as Captain Jack as wallpaper for your computer:

John Barrowman has indeed beautiful eyes (one of my weaknesses) and sensual lips... mmmmm

Here you have some pics of him to check him out... hey! what's that bulge?

All the best,

Hi Folks

Thank you all for replying I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds him dead sexy he certainly looks mighty fine in a RAF uniform mmm yummy  :tong:

Thanks for the links and pics ray they are great Its good to know he is gay too, my friends and I did have our suspicions. One thing that annoyed me in the report on Queer Day they say his character in Dr Who is gay when he isnt he is Bi and I believe Russell T Davis has stated else where that he is. What do you folks think about it ??

Once again thanks for all the replies, in due course I'll try and find out if it will be shown abroad for those not in UK

Big hugs

Hi again!

Yes, it really annoyed me also, but I'm used by now to see gays saying that bisexuals are just gays in denial... so I was not surprised...

But if you hear John Barrowman in the link where he speaks about his character Captain Jack, it's quite clear to me that the character is bisexual:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/...nbram=1&bbram=1

and yes, Russell T Davis has stated elsewhere that the character is bisexual. I don't remember where, but I remember that he said that even being Russell a gay man, he wrote about this character set in the future where it is going to be natural to go with men or women, to be bisexual... (not exactly with these words, but that's the idea...)

Anyway, I have just found a very recent link of Queer Day, where they got it right now... :

http://www.queerday.com/2005/oct/18/torchwood_gives_bisexual_captain_jack_a_doctor_who _spinoff.html

About the release of the series in the USA, according to Russell T Davis in this interview on Radio Wales, it seems that still there is no soon appearance for our classic (the new series of Dr. Who) in the States:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/sounds/torchwood.mp3

In this other link, you can find a deep study of the lesbian/gay/bisexual references made in the series Dr. Who:

http://www.nyder.com/stuff/whosqueer.html

In this other link, they say that John Barrowman is an openly-gay actor, so Smurfie, when you said in your post that you met him, you could have shaken more than just his hand... or not... as it seems that he has a partner for more than 10 years, the architect Scott Gill... :( Also this link seems to provide more information about the series in other countries, mainly saying that "Merchandise is already being developed for the new show, which will have distribution in Canada as well as the UK. Further foreign distribution, including possibly airing the series in the US, is still in the works. So gay and bi male viewers around the world may soon be able to catch a peek of Barrowman’s sexy, bi time traveler Captain Jack.":

He also sings!!! :tong:

If you want to listen to some fragments of the songs included in his last solo CD "John Barrowman Swings Cole Porter", click on this link:

http://johnbarrowman.net/portercd/portframe.html

although I must say he should correct his pronunciation of the French word "amour" in the song "Ca C'est L'Amour" :( .

By the way, don't the French speakers use the capital letter (caps) for the letter "ç" when writing?

All the best,

ray

Hi folks

John appeared on the ITV daytime show "Loose Women" on oct 18th sadly I missed it (slaps self hard) how ever some one on the John Barrowman site managed to record it, although rather crudly the thread is at
http://johnbarrowman.net/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=263

and the zipped video is located at
http://s62.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0RP2ZTPX0D5NO1E6BPW00C308Y

Although the file is quite large and not brilliant quality, it is very watchable and funny. I better issue a serious drool warning as I nearly drowned my laptop while watching the video clip  ;)  :male:

Hi, Smurfie!!!

Thanks man, I also missed it!!! Didn't know about it... :(

Your links are great, although my computer almost froze with the file, I managed to watch it... He's such a flirt and always joking... :) I loved also that he spoke about his partner for 13 years and that as you had said, the character Captain Jack was bisexual. I'm glad that he confirmed also what I had said about the writer of the series, that in the future there would be no stigmas about whom you go out or have sex with... I wish it could be a quite near future...

If you are lazy bitches like others of us, and don't bother checking links or had problems with the long file zip, you can still have a peek at him... these links are just pics!!! These first pics are from his appearance in a MTV show:

http://photobucket.com/albums/v637/JaneHodges/JB%20on%20MTV/

He has a killing smile and sexy dimples... mmmmm

In case you had some problems with the zip file or watching it, this link provides you with some snap shots of the show:

I cannot remember in what movie I saw the pen thing... lol

Hi!

I saw a scene where both of them were sharing a woman, but I don't remember any direct interaction between both of them... Are you speaking about that scene?

Hello Ray. In the scene im talking about, the two doctors, the female cop and the porn star girlfriend are all in bed together(ffmm?). Their all getting it on with the females and then the one doc reaches over and caresses the butt of the other doc.(who he thinks is bi also) . If you watch the show you know who im talking about-i just can't think of their names right now.

Just to show off my age - I remember the very first episode of this programme being transmmitted way back in 1963 (I think - I'm sure it wasn't later - but haven't checked on this - working from memory lol!!!) - in black and white (and YES - the opening titles squence and music DID scare me!!) - have loved the prog. ever since - even the rather awful, but camp, late 1970's/early 80's episodes. This years episodes were, without doubt, the best ever!! And not just because of the Billy Piper and Captain Jack (he's not my type!! lol!!). All we need now is a bisexual Dalek!!! OOooh just what would it do with it's sink plunger!!!!! lol!!!

Love and Peace,

Rupe :)
