I see little need for "kidnapping" tbh. The relationship between America and Britain has always been fairly good, and is amicable to this day. If there were serious grounds to suspect a Briton was guilty of committing a crime in America, then I'm sure the British authorities would, after reasonable consideration, allow the person to be tried for that crime. Kidnapping citizens of another country is disrespectful of the international legal protocol, especially when you are such firm allies with the country. But then again, I'm beginning to wonder about America's attitude to international diplomatic relationships period.

Yup - if you'd all be so kind, we have been waiting some time. Also it might inspire us to kick out our own right-wing barmpots.

Don't worry, the Republicans are going to get demolished in the next election. The Democrats are projected to gain stronger leads in the House and Senate, and the Democrat presidential candidate is also projected to win. The Democrats tend to be a lot more diplomatic.

I read that on HuffingtonPost.com last night--

Man--thanks Bush--you arrogant freaking Bastard--you trying to make everyone hate our asses????

An American won't be able to travel anywhere but here in the US--

Sure as hell would not want to be a solider--glad I don't have kids--I would do everything in my power to persuade any kid of mine from joining the service now---become an "enemy combatant" POW of another nation or group and you are in deep stuff thanks to our policy of condoning torture--and make no mistake about it----when you read our policies on dealing with captured soliders or others and don't parse the words--our current "questioning techniques" are torture!!

God ---the next election cannot come fast enough--I am not so enamored of the Dems--and by God-they have this innate ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, but any of the Dems is better than the twiddle-dee-twiddle dumb crew we have on the Repub side--it is just gonna be more of Bush type policies with that lot I am afraid-or worse!! God forbid and help us!!!!

The one candidate on the Dems side I want to see become the next prez---frankly does not have a snowball's chance in you-know-where (Joe Biden's my choice--the guy does make the most sense---that of course disqualifies him immediately--he says things in more than soundbites and the mainstream media ain't gonna have none of that!!)

This is just wrong on so many levels, I mean its bad enough we let the American Government extradite our citizens without any evidence [ Eg: in the natwest three case] but the fact that Bush and his cronies think they can get away with kidnapping....it is just beyond belief. However, if they tried that then I hope it would be illegal under British law [Although I doubt our New Labour Government would have the balls to arrest American agents].

Hmm.... I wonder if this gives other Governments the right to kidnap ppl who are wanted in their countries if they happen to be in America... I highly doubt it. Even more double standards by a country that is supposed to represent freedom.

I;m sure there are international laws against what America is doing but with their current Government, the fact that they are trampling over people's rights and disregarding the law and due process/ extradition law doesn';t surprise me.

Of course, the really scary thing is that our crappy excuse for a Government probably hasn't said a single word against this.

Izzfan :flag3:

[ps: I've just thought of something, if these kidnappers ,sorry agents have no legal authority in other countries then I wonder if you could exercise your rights of self-defence against them if they tried anything against you... I mean, it would be perfectly legal as it wouldn't technically be 'resisting arrest'... just a shame we have crap self-defence laws over here though]

[pps: sorry about the melodramtic tone of my post but this has really pissed me off (I guess the thread title is true) - it;s just shocking. It's just the arrogance of Bush's Government thinking that their laws apply to the whole world..... I mean how far are they going to take this? ]

bear in mind both sides did this during the revolution, and has been done continually since the fouding of our country. especially true with the 1873 law allowing bounty hunters. so, it's nothing new. surprised, tho, that they'd stoop this low. usually there's been lots of polite acquiesence between our gov't and the gov't housing persons of criminal interest, with the person of interest usually coming out on the losing end.

and, dude, no matter which lunatic party in in office, it's still gonna happen.

This is the inevitable result of the policy of "American Exceptionalism", the smug belief that because we are America, we don't have to play by the same rules as the rest of the world. The same rules that we expect others to follow. The hubris and snide arrogance displayed by the Neo-Cons is repulsive not only to the rest of the world, but to an ever growing number of us here. I sincerely hope that the World Court rules similarly, that it can kidnap those whom it deems "war criminals", regardless of their country of residence. That may be the only way we can rid ourselves of this nest of vipers in the White House.
I feel like I have to apologize to people from other countries who mistakenly assume that a majority of Americans support this kind of lunacy. Many of us see what has happened to our "nation of laws, not of men", and are sickened by it.
With predictably tragic results, we have allowed our government to contract Mad Cowboy Disease.

This administration should be charged with "High crimes and misdemeanors" in this country; and for crimes against humanity by the Hague.
Don't give up on us yet: There are many in this country that loath these fascist, demigods and everything they stand for!

Belated November political joke follows

Joker: We get together every last Thursday of November and carve up our turkeys. What do you do?

Jester: How barbaric! We stop at voting ours out of office.
