OK, I tend to be a tad niave at times but have never understood the leather hats. You know, the ones that they show the stereo-typical gay guys wearing on TV and movies. Usually the fellow is bare chested and has on the leathe police/militay hat with the wide brims that stick up....usually in a gay bar scene....where does this hat come from and what does it have to do with gay guys? Just wondering if anyone knows this.....have fun....NB

It's a Muir cap.
It goes with the leather drag/uniforms and completes it.

Personally I never understood the leather baseball cap look..
But I do own several nice hats.
I tend toward the Clint Eastwood spaghetti western type hats, actually a "Preacher's Hat" and non leather ball caps.

It stems from the leather/uniform fetish.
This simply happened as a natural progression in the gay culture (let's explore our sexuality).
Made famous by the most extraordinary artist, Touko Laaksonen aka 'Tom of Finland'.
There were few artists (drawings/paintings) of the 20th century more (lastingly) influential than 'Tom of Finland'.
The leather baseball hats derive from there.
