No---not one of those kind of toys---I made another jump up in camera today---after much consideration, comparing moodels and the like and hoping to see if some good deals could be had---I finally settled on what camera make and model would be my first digital SLR---I decided to get "just" the Nikon D40.

This camera has been around about 18 months or so now--which means it is coming to the end of its run most likely--in the area of digital cameras--like other electronic consumer goods---18 months is ancient!!

But considering the economic times we are now in--and all else--I chose this camera--and for my money---got the camera body and two of Nikon's basic, but still more than capable lenses. I can upgrade to the higher grade lenses at some point and can get excellent quality photos.

After charging the battery and getting a basic familiarity with the new camera--I went on a little excursion this afternoon on a gorgeous day, taking some photos just to get the feel for the camera--it will take me a bit to get to the level of comfort I had with the previous one.

Since everyone seems to like my photos--I figure that I will share a few of them---I first walked around a quaint country village that is big on antiques, and they were all decked out for Christmas---as the sign in the first photo says--ONLY 32 DAYS TILL CHRISTMAS--if you can believe that--the rest are from another cemetery---I seem to like to spend time in them--even though I hope I am still a few years at least from making my final home in one!!

Nice shots Volty - your eye for a good shot seems to be on target.
I'll be posting some new shots as soon as I can find an adapter ring for my Olympus and/or Cannon SLRs to go with Tamura lens and doubler.

Dear Volty,

Heard that Fuji camera back with Nikon lenses is a better combination and one favoured by professionals - you words of wisdom appreciated.

Well-you can never make the "perfect" buying decision--any camera--like many other things----it is a compromise----

I feel pretty good about the decision to get this camera---I guess that it will make me a "Nikon person" because once you start to buy a camera by one manufacturer----you buy into their system too.

I felt good about going Nikon since so many of the photographers I know--they tend to be "Nikoners"---

I am going to keep the photos coming--I think we will need to see scenes of pretty places and such!!

Provide a little bit of relief from the "doom and gloom"

Hurry up and get your photos up too Dogwood----and anyone else who cares to post up some-----

Correction:

Tamron lens with doubler from a Nikon

The kind of "Up in your face" a football field or more away.
