Its been awhile since I posted up some pics----in the past week almost now--we have finally had a run of some very nice weather--with it being nice to be out---feeling the warming sun--FINALLY. It looks like the snows are finally done for another season.
This first set of pictures----I took a several hour road trip to a town east of Columbus, Ohio called Granville. Granville doesn't hardly look like a typical Ohio small town--it was settled in the early 1800's by people from New England and the town looks like it was snatched up from the Green Mountains of Vermont or some such place--its very hilly in the town. There was still lots of snow on the ground last week--its fast going away now.

I like to take photos of churchs and on a main corner in town--all four corners have a church. The town is also home to a very good private liberal arts college, Dennison University. A famous grad of this school is the actor Hal Holbrook.

This next group of photos I took this past Sunday down at one of my fave places on planet Earth----Rabbit Hash, Kentucky----I have posted up pics of this place before.
It was a great day and it brought out the Harley and other moto riders in force, and one cool Model A Ford too.

My final group of photos---just hot off the presses from a few hours ago--I have been taking some classes on various aspects of gardening that are offered by the local park district---the place I take them is called Cox Arboretum. It is a several hundred acre park that features local plant life. After the class was over--it was a nice warm day and everyone was out walking about enjoying the sun--including the inhabitants of the park's ponds---the turtles. They were sure enjoying themselves--it looked like they all just woke up and left their burrows in the muddy banks.

I liked the ones with the Harleys in full bloom.
Down here, the vast majority of Harley guys won't even clean the bike to go out in weather that is not sunny and 80+ degrees with no chance of rain.

I really enjoyed seeing the turtles out having so much fun--they were on the rocks, the banks and on logs. While some scrambled back in the water when people came near----most stayed right where they were like the pair in the first pics---they almost acted liked they expected for someone to feed them!!!

Awesome Pics Volty, I too really enjoyed the pics with the Harley's (being a Harley man myself). I love to visit with fellow bikers on a old road were they gather to bull shit about anything and everything. I'm SO ready for some springtime weather.
Keep up the great photos and post them often.

Great photos, Volty!
I'm happy it's thawing out up there....I'm getting burned out on the whining and complaining I've been getting from my Yankee friends all winter.
(Yankees, to me, are those living North of Orlando!...but then, there's more Yankees down here than in New Jersey!)

I know that in the area I live--we don't have nearly a fraction of the kind of winter weather they get in places like up in parts of Canada, the snow belt of upstate NY, out on the Great Plains and Upper Midwest--but it was enough of a winter for my tastes.
One thing a winter like the one now wrapping up does do--it sure makes you appreciate just how sweet spring can be!!!!
But now--I am kicking it up a notch--I am boarding a plane in the early am after a wake up---and am heading to "the sunshine state" this week----I am going to be flying in some rough weather it seems--but the weather is supposed to be good this coming week and man--I am looking forward to some of that Florida sunshine!!!! I am sure I will find some good photo subjects on the trip!

Rabbit Hash is the place that has a dog for "mayor"---Lucy Lou--a border collie is the current one. I don't live near there--I wished I did--it's about a 1 1/2 hour trip to get down there--but its like stepping back in time to maybe the 1930's or '40's to go there.
I use a Nikon D40 DSLR--but i have camera lust for a D90!! LOL---we are never satisfied!!! LOL

The next two posts are pics I took on Saturday during a little one day in-state road trip here in Ohio----went through the rural, southern Appalachian part of the state--headed due east of me to one town--then south back towards the Ohio River, then back towards Cincinnati.
I have taken these photos and done more editing than I normally do--so they don't look "true" but I kind of like the tweaks I did to them.

For photos of a different type---I was in Florida last week--these first sets of pics--were taken last Thursday---in the area I was staying---they were having a competition of police K-9 officers and their dogs for the region that includes parts of Florida, Georgia and Alabama. The weather wasn't too good--it started to rain pretty good and I could not get too close--but I got a few OK shots of the dogs and officers in action. It was darker than it seems since it was late in the day--so I was pushing the camera a bit---with some related "noise" and a bit of not being so well in focus.

The next two posts were taken earlier last week at Homosassa Springs State Park on the west coast of Florida----the first few were taken around a neat place to eat then the rest of the series were taken in and around the park, those creatures in the water are manatees--the one was taken from an underwater observation building The little island in the second photo--since the 1970s it has been home to a series of monkeys--it was started as a PR tool for a developement planned for that area that never took--but the monkeys became something that became a local landmark and popular spot for private and tour boats to stop. They are on like the third or fourth generation of monkeys since they do live so long.

The rest of the pics are pretty much self-explanatory--the pic of the possum though is interesting--the possum was raised by hand by an old lady who recently died--she had a number of them---she set it up that in her death---the people at the park would take care of them.

I like them big and beautiful!!
I am leaving for Europe tomorrow.
I am sure there will be some wonderful things to capture as a photo.
But, I have no hope to do what you do.
I love it when you post photos like that.
Ocassionally, I visit relatives in Cincinnati.
Your photos bring those visits back to life.

Have a great time on your trip---I am sure you will have a great time.
I sure would love to go back over there now and talk about taking photos---I'd be a picture taking fool!!! LOL
I do hope that everybody who looks at the pics likes them----give us all a break from the crap of the world and sometimes on here too----not to be all "heavy" and all about the pics I take---but I think they do show---no matter how bad things go in our lives, in the world and such--there are all kinds of interesting things happening, people to meet, places to see.
Photography does do something I really never realized till I got so much into it----it does make you stop and appreciate the things that are all around us--things that we do often take for granted---there is something to a photograph----it does often capture many elements around us that we don't seem to see with our own eyes that are right in front of us.

A few more taken on both sides of the river and from and of--the Purple People Bridge----it was a road bridge they closed to traffic and now its just for people--in the summer they have one of those operations where you can walk along the top catwalks of the bridge---I haven't done it---but I'd like to---you do connect a saftey strap to the bridge.

Great pics Volty, I remember well going through some of the areas on your pics. When I lived in Ohio it was a little town outside Cincy called Amelia. We went to Newport and visited the acquarium and bought Dippin Dots lol. You brought back some memories thanks :)
